Ancient Rug Collection

The Dynamic Rugs Ancient Garden Collection is skill fully recreated, using Turn of the Century Persian patterns and resulting in an exciting and sophisticated collection .

The antique shades from sun-washed colors are blended softly with today's fashion of low contrast patterns with field colors of champagne, dusted blue, soft greens, creme, malt and a luxurious black or ruby red.

Woven with DECOLAN, a wool-like fine heat-set polypropylene fibre at nearly a million points per square meter to achieve a fine pencil point finish and design clarity.

What Size Of Rug Do I Need?

It can be somewhat of a difficult issue when it comes to answering "what size rug do I need?" But the answer can be simple by remembering that; it is your room and you should pick whatever size rug you are comfortable with. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise; however, there are some basic considerations you and take into account and some simple rules which can help make the decision easier.

Always set out your furnishings in the room before picking your rug, this will allow you to assess what size and shape of area rug would best suit. It will also let you ensure that the rug does not breach any of these basic rules set out in the rest of this article.

Firstly, most designers recommend that you leave at least 18 inches of space around the edges of your rug, any less than this will make the space it is in seem smaller than it actually is. In rooms with less space, you may decrease this down to as little as 8 inches, as the shrinking effect is not so pronounced in a small sized room.

If you are going to lay an area rug under a dining table, or any other piece of furniture that has chairs around it, then it is best to leave at least 24 inches of rug around the table, to facilitate the easy movement of chairs, so that people may sit themselves without the chair legs snagging on the edge of the rug. Not only is this safer, the repeated wear placed on a smaller rug will eventually fray its sides.

What about it you are putting the rug under a bed? For a King or Queen sized bed, the overlap should be around 24” in width and about 12" for a double or single bed. Adjust the size of the rug accordingly, or leave a larger overhang if the bed is offset within a smaller room, or is placed against a wall. Leaving a larger overhang is the better long term option as this means that if you later move your bed; or replace the bed, the rug will be large enough to accommodate such changes.

It is also considered poor design to have a heavily trafficked part of your home with half rug, and half flooring, so that people walking across it will have one foot upon the rug and one foot upon the floor. Not only is this potentially dangerous for people, it will also cause the rug to wear in a non-uniform fashion along one edge.

These simple guidelines are designed to ensure that your rug is displayed in the best manner, whilst making sure that there is no obstacle or discomfort caused, and that your rug will not be subjected to needless wear and tear due to poor placement or size considerations. Next time you ask yourself "What size rug do I need?" just stop and consider all these points and you are sure to come up with the right answer.

I never thought about some of the points you make here. Especially the uneven wearing point. I guess I have to go rearrange my carpets now. Thanks for the info.
