You have always wanted a log home and now you have one. Now how do you decorate it? That depends on what you like. A log cabin has a natural appeal to it and you don’t want to mess it up but you do want to add your own look as well. The log home should have a traditional “raw” look to it. This means that the logs show in the walls. They are not covered with sheetrock or any type of paneling. Not all walls can be left open but most of the interior walls can be.

Before you begin decorating, you want to know exactly what you want. Preparing ahead of time is the best way to save yourself money. Do some research online to find out what you would like to see in your log cabin. There are so many different styles to choose from.

Be creative and realize that bright colors are important in a log cabin. If you are not too careful, you may create a look that doesn’t take too long to become boring. If you are not sure what colors to use, start with the colors that make you smile when you see them. If you are still not sure of the colors, try looking through the color wheel or look online at some of the most common colors in home decorating. When you see a color that makes you smile, you know that you have found the color that you are most comfortable with.

It’s okay to mismatch. Accessorizing the room is to help the room feel normal and comfortable. Having everything match a particular pattern will hinder this look. You may be consumed with the drive to make everything match perfectly and this will eliminate the comfortable look. Use a neutral color for the main accessory color and you can develop a style on your own. Beige or cream color is the perfect neutral color to use and then accent with certain colors. Another way to bring bright colors to your decor is to use bright solid color area rugs. You can get any color you like to match your decor so your possibilities are endless.

Do you want to create a rustic look? Southwestern area rugs complete a rustic look. They can change the look of a room entirely. Choose one color out of the rug that you like the most and use that color to coordinate and accessorize with. For example, if sky blue is in your rug, use this color blue to make throw pillows, lampshade covers, and a throw for the back of the sofa. You can create a valence in this color or make two full curtain panels.

When decorating a log cabin, you want to leave it as natural as possible but at the same time you want to be able to brighten up the look of your interior and create a new look at least once a year. A new look can be carried throughout the log cabin if you are organized and can make it work for your other rooms. Don’t allow two different looks to clash together.
